Dr. Peter explains: Use Neem Oil as a Natural Remedy for Athlete’s Foot

Researching Neem oil and its applications in skin care, I found that it has been very successfully used as a natural remedy for Athlete’s Foot and other fungal infections. And empirically, I also knew for a long time that Neem Oil is for “FunGuys” [pronounce: fun·gi(s)]. So . . . let’s face it guys, Athlete’s Foot is a male problem (mostly, at least) and that is backed up by statistics. Statistics confirm that the majority of people affected by Athlete’s Foot are of the male gender.

Here is a typical scenario: A women walks up to my demo table, guy in tow. She has a lot of questions about Neem lotion, Neem clay mask, and our sugar scrub. She basically wants to know how Neem oil will make her look more beautiful. While explaining to her the benefits of Neem for skin, her better half’s eyes glaze over, he looks helpless and a little disoriented, trying to find something to focus on that would not be such a waste of time. Most end up staring at their smart phone, checking the latest scores, or what to do for lunch.

However, the situation changes predictively, once the conversation turns to our Neem Cure oil and how this potent anti-fungal Neem oil blend is a natural remedy for Athlete’s foot or other fungal infections on our feet and toes. Antifungal Neem oil has helped many very effectively in the past with its potent properties. Once the word Athletes’ foot has launched from my vocal cords, a dramatic change takes place in the guy’s demeanor: his head straightens up, his eyes return to focus, and, as if he had listened the whole time, he shows great interest in the conversation and this interesting product. It happens all the time.

5 Steps to Use Neem Oil for Athlete’s Foot

  1. Apply 1-2 drops of Neem Cure Neem oil morning and night. Rub into affected area, including surrounding areas of the foot or toe and allow to soak in. As initial treatment, you may add a third application during midday.
  2. Continue until skin has cleared up and healed. Then apply 1 drop as prophylaxis. This will protect the newly established skin and will keep it elastic.
  3. Spray the inside of your shoes with Adios Outdoor Spray to prevent fungal growth in folds and crevices, especially with tennis shoes made from rubber or plastic.
  4. Keep your feet dry. Use talcum powder and change socks on a regular basis to remove moisture. This will deprive fungi of an essential element to stay alive. Wear sandals or roomy shoes to allow air circulation and prevent moisture from building up.
  5. Refrain from walking barefoot in public areas like pools and gyms.

What our Customers say:

Ryan F. from MO: “After looking at my fungi infested big toe nail, I started using Neem Cure on it every morning and it has almost healed 75% in two weeks! I’ll give it one more week and my dead toe nail will have completely recovered. I think JustNeem is a fantastic product!”

Wendy B. from CA: “I suffer from Athlete’s foot. After a few weeks of using Neem Cure, my feet became pink and soft. My skin is starting to peel off and the bacteria between my toes are leaving. I love Neem Cure so much! I highly recommend this product.”

More Tips for Neem Oil and Athlete’s Foot:

  • Regularly wash feet with Neem Soap. Use Green TeaFragrance Free, or Coconut Soap for best fungal control.
  • In addition, use Neem Body Polish Sugar Scrub toremove dead and dry skin. The antifungal effects of Neem oil contained in the scrub will absorb into skin for added fungal control.
  • Maintain germ-free environment by added Neem lotion to your daily foot care.

So, What Actually is Athlete’s Foot?

Athlete’s Foot is a very common fungal infection that often begins as a scaly, red rash between toes. The infection causes the skin to peel and crack and results in itching and burning between the toes. It produces dry skin with flaky patches that start smelling bad. The medical name for athletes foot is tinea pedis.

Fungi and Dermatophytes

“Fungus” is the general term for a group of microorganisms that include yeast, molds, and mushrooms. Fungi are found all over in our environment; they surround us at all times and even live on our skin. Many fungi are harmless or even beneficial (think mushrooms), while others can cause significant health problems that include hallucinations and death (think mushrooms again . . .).

One of their main jobs in life is to clean up. So fungi really like dead or dying organic matter. That’s their food. And sometimes, they find that kind of food between our toes. I’m not entirely sure why guys would have more dead stuff there than girls, but that’s a different subject that we will covered another time. But dead stuff alone is not quite sufficient to make a fungus happy. To really get the party going, fungi need a few more ingredients. To enjoy life and have fun these fun-guys need:

  • Moist environments
  • Absence of air flow
  • Warm temperatures
  • Dead and decaying matter
  • Darkness (for some fungi)

Now, if that sounds like feet, head, armpits, and groins you are absolutely right. While fungi can grow on skin anywhere, these are the places where we typically encounter them in a bothersome way.

Feet: Sweat, damp socks, tight shoes that are worn for long periods of time is a perfect feeding place for fungi. And did I mention dead skin? Plenty of it there.

Head: Same story here. On our heads, in particular those that are still covered by hair, and especially those that are used to display hats, fungi love them, as they find the perfect living conditions there.

Arm Pits: A dark, sweaty,  hairy (especially with guys), warm and nutritious paradise for fungi with limited air exchange are a preferred hang-out.

Groins: Again, moist, warm, dark, and little air exchange here. Perfect conditions for growing fungi

Fungi that grow on skin, hair, and nails are called dermatophytes. The most common dermatophyte is called Trichophyton rubrum. That’s the one that usually causes Athlete’s Foot. Fungal infections easily spread when coming in contact with the fungus. They also easily return if not cured completely.

3 Different Types of Athlete’s Foot

Toe infection: Toe infections are found between toes. They occur as red, scaly skin that peels and cracks, sometimes to the point that blood appears. Once skin is compromised like that, bacterial infections might settle on top off the fungal environment and worsen the situation by breaking the skin down even more.

Moccasin infection: The Moccasin-type infection affects the skin on the bottom or heel of the foot. It causes chronic dryness and scaling on the soles that extends up the sides of the feet, thus the name moccasin. The skin becomes thick, and cracks. In severe cases toenails get infected, they thicken, crumble, and fall out. Here too, bacterial infections that get into the cracked skin can aggravate the problem.

Vesicular infection: Vesicular-type infections produce fluid-filled blisters that appear on the bottom of the foot, right under the skin. Like the moccasin and toe infection, it also can get co-infected and thus worsened by bacteria.

Fungal Infections are Contagious

Athlete’s Foot infections can be picked up or transmitted through contact with objects. For example, walking barefoot on floors (looker room) and carpets, or using a shower that is contaminated by dermatophytes. Wearing contaminated clothing or shoes is another common infection route.

Fungal infections are not limited to feet. Nail fungus, ringworm, and jock itch are all caused by the same type of fungus. By picking, scratching, or touching the infected area, fungi cells slip underneath fingernails or into cracks on hands and fingers.  From there, the infection can easily be transmitted to other parts of the body.

Prevent Re-Infection

Once a fungal infection has been successfully treated, it is important to prevent a re-infection. Some people are more susceptible to fungal infections than others. A variety of factors may influence that, but it is not entirely clear why that is the case. If you tend to catch fungal infections easily it is important to take preventive steps. Following the steps outlined above will help minimize the chances of re-infections.

Sub Saharan Neem Oil Among the Most Potent in the World: A Research Study Confirms

JustNeem Green Tea Hands and Feet Gift Set

JustNeem Body Care, a North Carolina based skin care company has selected Sub Saharan Neem oil as a key ingredient for its skin care line. The decision to use Sub-Saharan Neem for skin care products came as a result of a research study conducted in collaboration with the University of Nouakchott, Mauritania and a German research laboratory. The results of that study revealed that, compared to other world regions, Sub Saharan Neem surpasses the quality and potency of Neem from most other regions of the world. It is highly anti fungal, antibacterial, antiviral, and it repels bugs. And all of that happens naturally!

Learn why Desert Neem Oil is Better

In their fight for survival, Neem trees that grow under extreme conditions like the Sahara Desert have to work extra hard to build up their “immune system.” They produce extra high concentrations of the protective compounds that shield them from attacks from fungi, bacteria, viruses, and insects. With this survival package, Neem trees arm themselves with a bio-defense system that deploys over 150 molecules that are found in the Neem oil that is dispersed throughout Neem leaves, Neem bark, and Neem seeds.

Neem Oil Research Study

The JustNeem team conducted research studies to assess the quality of the Neem trees that were growing in the country. In collaboration with the department of Biology at the University of Nouakchott, teams went out in 4-wheel drive vehicles to survey the country’s Neem trees, collect data on the trees’ age, distribution, fruiting behavior and conducted interviews that probed local knowledge and traditional uses of Neem.

In a second part of this study, the teams collected seeds from over 100 Neem trees in different provinces. All seed samples were labeled, the GPS coordinates of the trees from which they came were recorded, and the seeds were sent to a research laboratory at Trifolio, GmbH in Germany. From there the potency of the Neem oil contained in each seed sample was tested.

Trifolio is a world renown Neem company that grew out of the Neem Research Institute founded by Professor Dr. H. Schmutterer, at the University of Giessen, Germany. The folks at Trifolio have become great friends and have supported JustNeem over the years. They are world experts when it comes to Neem. They analyzed the content of Azadirachtin (AZA), a key chemical contained in Neem oil. The analysis of AZA serves as a marker for the cocktail of all other protective molecules produced by the Neem tree and can be used as a measure for the quality of the seeds.

Prof. Dr. H. Schmutterer (left) and Dr. Peter Radtke, founder and CEO of JustNeem during a visit in Germany. Prof. Schmutterer is revered as The Father of Neem Research. He is a consultant for JustNeem.

Remarkable Neem Test Results

The results that came back were remarkable. The analysis showed that Sub Saharan Neem is exceptionally potent. Its AZA concentrations, expressed as parts per million (ppm), are among the highest in the world. While average AZA content typically ranges from 1,500 – 2000 ppm, Mauritanian Neem trees had average concentrations of 4,150 ppm and a large number of trees had impressive concentrations of >6,000 ppm which is up to 400% above average.

Desert Neem Comparison

With that exciting information in hand, JustNeem embarked on a mission to create potent skin care products with desert Neem and its natural biological defenses against microorganisms. Coincidently, JustNeem products defend human skin from germs and harmful intruders, as well as the Neem oil treats minor wounds.

JustNeem Neem Orchard

Using already existing trees in villages and planting additional Neem trees from seeds of those high-performing trees identified by the research study, JustNeem is propagating seedlings in a nursery in Mauritania. The seedlings are then transplanted into the nearby orchard just outside the city of Kaedi. There, they bask in the desert sun and produce their potent protective compounds that go into the JustNeem products and then onto your skin.

Neem Oil for Psoriasis

Neem Oil has been used for psoriasis for many years in southeast Asia. There, the Neem tree is revered as the “village pharmacy” that helps support healthy and clean skin.

Neem oil, extracted from the seeds of the Neem tree, contains over 140 medical properties that have shown to be very effective to alleviate the tremendous dryness and itching involved with psoriasis. Analgesic Neem oil has shown exceptional results in controlling the itch and reducing red, inflamed skin back to a normal, healthy condition.

Why is Neem Oil good for Psoriasis?

  • The most important component in Neem oil for psoriasis is nimbidin, an anti-inflammatory property comparable to standard cortisone drugs, that reduces swelling, redness, and itching
  • Neem oil contains a natural antihistamine that calms itching and swelling
  • Neem oil’s most known factors in skincare are its ability to fight fungal and bacterial infections. For psoriasis sufferers that means that Neem oil fights microbes that settle in the cracks of broken skin or skin that has been scratched raw, disinfect it and with that, allow skin to heal of the inflammation and redness
  • Neem oil is rich in Vitamin E, omega 6 and omega 9 fatty acids and therefore a superb natural moisturizer for extremely dry skin
  • Neem’s all-around function is the support of a healthy immunity of your skin which is one of the most important factors for someone suffering from psoriasis

What actually is Psoriasis?

The cause for psoriasis has not been well established but it is commonly known as a skin disorder with an autoimmune component. Psoriasis is described as a genetic disease triggered by environmental factors. It may run in families as a “chronic inflammatory skin disease” that affects 2-4% of our general population. Psoriasis is a common skin condition that is characterized by dry, cracked, scaling, and red skin patches. The affected skin can show signs of inflammation and is usually accompanied by moderate to severe itching. The itching associated with psoriasis is what gave it its name; psoriasis is the Greek word for “itching condition.”

Psoriasis_2 Psoriasis 3

Psoriasis produces abnormally fast growing skin cells that lead to the accumulation of silvery patches of dead cells that grow from deep within to the epidermis, our skin surface. This is a cell renewal process that normally takes about a month to complete its cycle. In psoriasis, this happens within days, thus the accumulation of layers and layers of dry skin cells. Psoriasis can also manifest itself as a thickening and pitting of toe and fingernails. All who suffer from psoriasis describe that skin becomes extremely dry, begins cracking, itching and burning, even bleeding, and that the typical sensation of constant soreness becomes very nerve wracking at times. And if that wasn’t enough, cracked skin is an ideal entryway for secondary bacterial and fungal infections that further aggravate the initial psoriasis condition with redness, swelling and more itching. Psoriasis

The 5 most Common Types of Psoriasis

Plaque psoriasis: This is the form we normally think of when talking about psoriasis. It appears as dry, red, scaly, itchy and raised spots that appear as just a few or can cover a large area anywhere on our body, including genitals and the soft tissue in our mouth. Inverse psoriasis: This kind of psoriasis received its name from the more hidden places it appears on our skin: backside of our arms and armpits, in the groin, under breasts, and around the genitals. As sweat easily gathers in these places of our body, these red, itchy spots often are a combination of psoriasis and fungal inflammation. Scalp psoriasis: Psoriasis on the scalp appears similarly as plaque psoriasis, in red, itchy spots along the hair line that can spreading across the entire scalp.  You may first notice it for its intense itching sensation. White flakes appear on your shirt or collar after scratching, similarly to dandruff. Psoriasis in Children: In children, psoriasis can appear only as a one-time rash, following a bacterial infection elsewhere in the body or as a more serious and ongoing skin condition. Mostly, spots on arms, legs, scalp, and trunk are much smaller and flat and only a bit scaly, but they can itch just the same. Nail psoriasis: Psoriasis can also affect fingernails and toenails. Nails lose their healthy shape and form and become discolored (see image above). In extreme cases, nails may even  become loose and fall out.

What Triggers Psoriasis?

  • Symptoms often appear in cycles. Patients can be symptom-free for weeks or months only for symptoms to return
  • It can be triggered by environmental conditions, cold weather, certain foods and diets e.g alcohol consumption, or health related factors
  • Stress and certain medications may also trigger psoriasis
  • A predisposition for psoriasis or hereditary condition are often underlying causes for an outbreak

Is there a Cure for Psoriasis?

While there currently is no cure for psoriasis, the goal for treatment is to stop skin cells from reproducing so rapidly and to reduce the itching and scaling of the skin. Reduced stress, a changed diet, nonprescription cortisone creams, and exposing your skin to small amounts of natural sunlight may help improve your psoriasis symptoms. Natural remedies have also shown to offer relief. Learn more about how Neem Oil can improve your skin.

How Neem Oil is Good for Dry, Cracked, and Itchy Skin

Neem oil has been used for centuries to remove dryness of skin. Neem oil is loaded with antioxidant Vitamin E, omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids, and palmitic acid. According to research cited by the University of Maryland Medical Center, these base oils play an important role in skin repair. They are very effective moisturizers that lock in moisture where it belongs- inside skin cells. Vitamin E in Neem oil also is a powerful antioxidant that is known to protect skin from degradation and premature aging. Neem oil benefits skin’s natural function to be elastic and protective.

Neem Oil Removes Dryness

With fall upon us and winter around the corner, the time has arrived when skin dries out more easily and causes all sorts of problems. Just as a hot, dry summer makes soil crack, leaving wide spaces between its organic layers, our skin suffers the same from increased temperatures and the constant airflow in our homes during wintertime. In the winter where the cold air outside and the hot air inside create a low relative humidity, our skin turns dry, becomes brittle, easily cracks, peels and begins scaling, according to Mayo Clinic reports.

healthy and dry skin

Problems with Dry Skin

We all know about the condition of “ashy-looking skin.” Through lack of hydration, skin loses its fresh color and elasticity, it starts itching, we start scratching and soon our lower legs, arms, hands, knuckles feel like they are on fire.

Skin is a Physical Barrier

Skin is the human body’s largest organ, with multiple functions that include moisture control, temperature regulation, the sensation for touch and temperature. But what we mostly are not aware of, our skin is a physical barrier that shields us from environmental impacts and microbes.

The Dilemma of a Cracked Skin Barrier

Dry and cracked skin is a sign of skin cells shrinking from lack of water. With the reduced size of skin cells, spaces between the cells grow. In severe cases, dry skin ruptures and starts bleeding. With this condition, skin loses one of its most important functions, its ability to protect from fungi, bacteria, and viruses. The resulting redness and inflammation is the body’s response to microbial infections of the skin.

The Best Quality Anti-Bacterial Neem Oil

The Neem tree produces a variety of anti-infective molecules that are designed to protect the tree from bacterial, fungal, and viral infections. Neem oil, extracted from the seeds of the tree, and Neem leaves contain these same protective compounds that JustNeem incorporates into all its products. Even more, Neem from the Sub-Saharan desert, the place where JustNeem purchases it, has been shown to contain significantly higher concentrations of antimicrobial properties than Neem from other parts of the world.

Neem Oil for Skin

Adding Neem oil, Neem lotion, and Neem soap to your daily routine will give you an effective, natural tool to support your skin when the dry winter air moves in and your skin needs a bit of extra help.

Basic Recommendations:

Use moisturizing Face & Body Neem Soap daily. JustNeem soaps are glycerin-based. Glycerin draws moisture from the air to the skin, which means that our soaps do not strip moisture from your skin but add it and therefore keep skin hydrated and soft. And no fear, we only use plant-derived ingredients in all our products, so the glycerin in our Neem soaps is actually produced by the sun.

Use hydrating JustNeem lotion to lubricate dry and cracked skin and thereby lock in its moisture. Use Neem lotion in the morning, evening, and during the day, but in particular after taking a shower to take advantage of the remaining moisture on the skin from washing. Use a lotion that doesn’t just sit on top of your skin, where it is of little use, but gets deeply absorbed into the skin and in between skin cells.

Have you ever wondered what ‘rosacea’ really is? What causes it? What are the treatment options? How does it relate to ‘adult acne’? Dr. Peter asked these same questions. Read his findings in this blog post to learn more!

What is Rosacea?

Rosacea is a common facial skin disorder that affects up to 16 million US citizens, with the majority being of Northern European descent.

The onset of Rosacea typically takes place between ages 40 and 50 and is initially associated with a light redness across the facial skin. Over time this can develop into patches of red, dry, and flaky skin with enlarged pores, swelling, inflammation, papular rashes, and plaques (Fig. 1).

The main areas affected are forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin (Fig. 2).  In rare cases, Rosacea can extend to ears, neck, chest, and scalp. Many patients experience irritation, burning or stinging sensation, itching, and dry skin. Surveys have shown that facial redness, bumps, and pimples can significantly impact a patient’s self esteem and emotional well-being.

Often referred to as “adult acne,” Rosacea shares some similarities with acne, but the underlying disease mechanism is quite different. Contrary to the causes of acne, which include overproduction of oil (sebum), irregular shedding of dead skin cells, and buildup of bacteria, causes for Rosacea are not well understood. Contributing factors for Rosacea are listed as:

  • Dysfunction of the regulation of facial blood vessel distribution
  • Neurogenic inflammation
  • Autoimmune diseases
  • Hair follicle mites called Demodex folliculorum and bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus

Once breakage of skin has occurred, advantageous bacteria and fungi often aggravate the condition and contribute to the inflammation.

Triggers and Aggravation Factors
Several environmental or dietary triggers have also been reported. They are not consistent, though, as individual people experience them differently. High on the list of environmental triggers are living in either hot or cold climates, being exposed to humidity, sun, or experiencing emotional stress.

Dietary triggers include spicy food, alcohol, and caffeinated drinks. Skin care products and cosmetics can also cause episodes and flare-ups. Great care must be taken to choose grooming products to not further irritate but rather calm the skin and provide relief.

Rosacea Treatments

Medical treatments of Rosacea range from no treatment at all for mild to moderate cases to topical or orally administration of antibiotics for more severely affected skin. Facial massages can produce positive results and anti-histamines can be beneficial to help calm redness and inflammation of skin. More radical treatments include alpha-hydroxyl acid peels and vascular laser treatment.

Neem, a Natural Alternative to Conventional Treatments
Neem with its well known antibacterial, antifungal, and antimicrobial activities is uniquely positioned to address several of the triggers and aggravating factors associate with Rosacea.

  • Rich in antihistamines and loaded with the antioxidant vitamin E, Neem swiftly calms inflammation, reduces swelling and burning, and diminishes redness.
  • Neem’s super moisturizing effect restores dry and flaky skin back to its smooth, supple radiance and natural elasticity.
  • Neem’s active antimicrobial and healing properties provide relief to papular rashes, plaques, or otherwise infected skin.

A suggested daily Neem skin care routine includes facial Neem cleanser, Neem moisturizer, Neem Cure oil, and our Neem Clay Mask (use twice a week):

JustNeem’s glycerin-based Neem soap for face (and body) is a gentle alternative to traditional facial cleansers that often irritate and dry out sensitive facial skin. While it removes harmful germs and excess oil, it delivers the embedded anti-infective and healing properties of Neem directly to the skin. (Neem Tip!: Using the Neem Clay Mask next? Use warm water to open pores and prep skin for a deep, moisturizing cleanse.)

JustNeem’s Neem Clay Mask made with French Clay, Neem, and protective oils, permeates the skin on a deeper level.  Regular use of the mask helps detoxify facial skin and shrink pores.  Apply a thin layer and allow 15 to 20 minutes for the exchange of toxins being drawn from deep within and the infusion of healing Neem back into the skin tissue.  The mask has proven to help tremendously when follicle mites and bacterial irritations are involved with Rosacea. Use 2-3 times a week.

JustNeem’s lotion made with very light moisturizing oils – like Sunflower, Jojoba, and Coconut oils – is ideal for maintaining healthy skin as it adds long-lasting hydration, as well as the protective layer of Neem to decrease free radicals and shield from impending germs.

Gently massage a few drops of JustNeem’s Neem Cure oil into inflamed, red, and itchy skin. Within minutes, Neem’s anti-infective and anti-microbial barriers are activated and begin to sooth and provide comfort. Use as needed and feel relief from any discomfort in only minutes.

Women's Equality DayAbout Women’s Equality Day

August 26th is National Women’s Equality Day. Through their massive, peaceful civil rights movement, the women of 1920 won the right to vote in the United States.  Since that day in 1920, Women’s Equality Day has begun to hold a larger meaning for women all over the world. It celebrates a movement of civil rights and equality for women everywhere. Provide women all over the world with a bigger voice by supporting organizations and companies that advocate for women’s equality.

JustNeem Empowers Women Through Soap Making

In many other countries of the world, women are still suppressed and discriminated against. It is part of our mission at JustNeem to help provide a voice for women here and in Africa. Since the beginning of our work in Mauritania, West Africa, JustNeem has been teaching new skills to women in this part of the world.

Soap Making with JustNeem
JustNeem Soap Making

Since 2009, we have held soap making workshops for women living in the slums of Nouakchott, the capital city of Mauritania. We educate women there to use available natural resources to make quality soaps. These workshops help empower these women to start their own businesses by selling their soaps in the local markets.

We are honored to celebrate Women’s Equality Day with them. We are thrilled to see them support their families, improve their lives, and be a contributing part of Mauritanian society. Here are some of our photos of the wonderful women we work with in Mauritania. You can learn more about our work in Africa on our website: READ MORE HERE >>

If you have acne, you’d probably love to clear up your skin with a natural treatment. We all would! A natural, skin-soothing treatment that clears my face? We’d be all over that, right? That’s why we love Neem oil.

Natural Acne Treatment

In this blog we’ll explore what causes acne. Then we’ll look at conventional treatments for acne, how they effect the skin and how they compare to using Neem oil, and introduce JustNeem’s Acne Treatment Kit, AcNeem.

First, let’s take a look at what causes acne…

What causes Acne?

The common form of acne develops as a result of blockages in skin follicles. This results from pores getting clogged with dead skin cells and sebum, an oily/waxy substance that is secreted by microscopic sebaceous glands in the skin.

The natural function of these glands is to lubricate and waterproof the skin and hair. But when they become clogged with sebum and dead skin cells, naturally occurring bacteria and fungi (like Propionibacterium acnes and Malassezia, formerly known as Pityrosporum) that are present on most people’s skin flora start feeding on fatty acids in clogged pores, where they can cause inflammation, redness, scarring or hyper-pigmentation – this is what we typically recognize as acne.

Conventional Acne Treatments & Their Effects on Skin

Conventional acne treatments work in at least 4 different ways, with higher-quality treatments providing multiple, simultaneous effects:

  1. Normalizing shedding into the pore to prevent blockage
  2. Killing bacteria and fungi
  3. Anti-inflammatory treatment
  4. Hormonal manipulation

The most common treatments for acne take the second approach. They use benzoyl peroxide and antibiotics to combat the bacteria that feed on the clogged pores.

Peroxides form highly reactive radicals that react with organic matter, including bacteria and fungi, thereby killing these microorganisms. These chemicals are also used for bleaching and, while they kill bacteria, they also destroy skin cells, which is why they are also used as a peeling agent. Benzoyl peroxide’s side effects include extreme dryness of the skin, redness, and peeling. People with sensitive skin may also suffer burning, itching, and possibly swelling of the skin.

More severe cases of acne are treated with topical or oral formulations of antibiotics such as tetracycline, erythromycin, clindamycin, and minocycline. However, antibiotics target only the bacterial aspect of acne, and due to a rapid increase of resistance, their effectiveness is becoming very limited. The list of side effects of antibiotic is long, but most troubling is their tendency to induce resistance.

Acne is caused by bacterial or fungal infection of the pores that leads to inflammation. And conventional treatments have harsh side effects and often lead to more problems.

So, is there a natural alternative that can help? We need something that’s naturally anti-bacterial and antifungal, and something that also helps reduce the inflammation caused by the irritated skin. It turns out Neem oil is one of the best natural treatments for acne. It has all the properties we need, without the negative side effects.

Natural Acne Treatment with Neem Oil

Studies show that the Neem tree has powerful anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties that are a natural treatment for acne. There are many reasons it is beneficial and nourishing to the skin.

Neem_(Azadirachta_indica)_in_Hyderabad_W_IMG_6976

First of all, Neem oil and Neem leaves contain a cocktail of very potent, plant-derived anti-bacterial and anti-fungal molecules. These natural, botanical antibiotics and anti-fungals are part of the Neem tree’s defense system, protecting it from bacterial and fungal diseases.

Neem is also rich in Vitamin E, known to protect and repair skin. Vitamin E is a potent antioxidant that neutralizes the free radicals that damage collagen and result in skin dryness, fine lines, and wrinkles.

When incorporated into skin care products, Neem extracts can inhibit bacterial and fungal growth and also show anti-inflammatory properties. However, unlike benzoyl peroxide, Neem does not destroy skin cells and therefore does not result in dry skin. This is an important aspect, since dry skin is prone to breakage and becomes easily re-infected, thus perpetuating the cycle of infection, inflammation, and skin damage.

Neem oil and Neem pastes lubricate the skin and provide the nourishment it needs to become and stay elastic and strong. In addition, since Neem’s anti-bacterial and anti-fungal molecules operate by several different mechanisms to synergistically stop bacterial and fungal growth, they cannot induce resistance.

An additional aspect of Neem is that it has been shown to facilitate wound healing providing an additional benefit to stressed and broken skin, that needs to be restored quickly so it can function as a protective barrier.

How have YOU reclaimed the outdoors this summer?

Adios Outdoor Spray keeps away unwanted pests and lets you launch back into your passions. Gardening, yoga in the backyard, grilling out…

But don’t take our word for it; check out these stories about our all-natural, DEET-free spray. It works, and is great for your skin!

Here are some stories – and we’d love to hear yours! (You can share it in the comments below.)

——

Cynthia – wasn’t so sure at first…

“I was skeptical when I purchased my first bottle at a local store, but went on to buy five more to spread around to my friends. It does a wonder to keep the ticks, mosquitoes, and ants away out here in the wilds of Chatham County, NC. (Soothes any other little nicks and scratches one might have, too.)”

——

Janine – liberated from those deer flies!

“Adios Outdoor spray keeps away those very aggressive biting deer flies that show up in May here on the eastern shore in Maryland. My husband has a very severe allergic reaction to them. Now he can enjoy the outdoors without fear of being bitten.”

——

Anjeanette – flourishing and enjoying the garden again… plus, beating fleas, naturally!

“I will never again work in the yard or do any outdoor activity without my Adios! Last summer I was bitten several times by mosquitoes and found out after my eye swelled shut that I became allergic to mosquito bites. That was the one time I forgot to spray on the Adios. I was just going out to clean off the back porch and was only outside for a few minutes. When I spray my exposed skin with Adios, bugs avoid me at all haste!!!

Also, I discovered that it kills fleas on contact. After temporarily housing a lost dog, my two dogs inherited his fleas over night. After washing both my dogs, I sprayed them with Adios and worked it into their coats. My hands came away with dead fleas that didn’t come out in the wash. BTW, the neem in the spray instantly began healing the bites on my dogs skin too!!!”

——

Ashley – Hm, she’s smitten….

“This product is absolutely incredible!!! I just tried the soap, the lotion and the “Adios” and I cannot get enough of it!”

——

Anonymous — So adventurous, they prefer to remain nameless…

“Just got back from the Outer Banks, NC and used this product every day. We went to a deserted island where my fellow travelers used Off brand mosquito spray and they had more than 40 bites each (and some as many as 60). I used Adios and only had 2, one on my hand and one on my finger (where I had neglected to use the Adios). For two weeks I used this product and it works. The best part is that the ingredients are natural and you don’t worry about putting DEET on your body.”

——

Neem Oil and Insects

——

Tanya – used to be missing out, but now she’s outdoors — despite allergies!

“I love this spray!!! I’ve suffered from mild allergic reactions to mosquito bites for years, and have missed out on outdoor activities with my family as a result. I am so happy to have found something that is natural, good for my skin, and actually works. I will certainly be recommending this to friends and family.”

——

Lori – her daughter is loving life again…

“Wanted to let you guys know we’ve had GREAT results with Adios! Our daughter – who is violently allergic to mosquitoes – hasn’t been bitten once with this spray on. Love!”

——

Sherry —  Improved sales at her plant nursery!

“We own a nursery at the Outer Banks and the mosquitos were so bad last fall that they would bite our customers the minute they stepped out of their cars. This spring we were introduced to Adios. We gave it to our employees for a test run and tried it ourselves and were amazed as to how well it worked to keep these pests off our bodies. Last weekend, as customers were coming to our nursery, we greeted them with a squirt of the Adios and the result was amazing! People loved the smell, how it felt and most of all, how well it worked!”

——

Kelly - The bugs used to love her…

“Best natural stuff out there. Smells good and works really well. Mosquitoes love me and now they don’t like me.”
